About Us

Cocoon Apothecary, founded in 2004 by Jessica Burman, was conceived through a need for simple, healthy skincare products.  Jessica found that most products on store shelves were loaded with synthetic fillers and animal byproducts and lacked the integrity she knew she could provide in a skincare line. Armed with aromatherapy training and her continuous commitment to learn, she endeavored on a journey to create natural, vegan products like no other.

From the beginning, Jessica spent long hours at local markets getting to know her customers. Week after week, women would return to tell her what they liked and what they wanted. She found this interaction to be invaluable in creating the perfect skincare line, drawing on the knowledge of her loyal customer base. All of Cocoon’s products are formulated using plant and nut oils, fruit and herbal extracts and flower essences containing natural sources of vitamins, fatty acids and anti-oxidants.

Cocoon believes that organic farming is crucial to preserving people’s health, clean air, nutrient-dense soil, and drinkable water. They source 100% of their botanicals from certified organic producers and take an avid interest in the farms that their ingredients come from - from the biodynamic farm they visited for ylang ylang in Costa Rica to learning about the benefits of gently harvesting witch hazel by an organic producer in the Ozark Mountains – it is important for Cocoon to know their suppliers. 

In every purchasing decision, Cocoon considers their carbon footprint. They source ingredients from local suppliers as much as possible. This includes buying distilled water from a producer two blocks away and purchasing their glass bottles from a company less than 20 km away. Their shipments are packed using compostable packing peanuts and by reusing bubble wrap and boxes. It is their goal to use the least amount of petroleum products possible and this has been a major deciding factor in their recent conversion to glass bottles rather than plastic.

Cocoon’s mission is to provide their customers with the highest quality, ethically sourced, organic, natural and animal-free products. By keeping these principles at the forefront, they are making a difference for the planet and for each customer they serve.
